The Cordiner Scholarship
The
aim of the Cordiner Scholarship is to contribute to the development of Malawi by offering support for post-graduate degrees
to students who have demonstrated commitment, dedication and passion to vocational studies at university.
Depending
upon funding, it is expected that one to two scholarships will be awarded annually.
The
scholarship provides funding for:
- tuition fees
- university accommodation
- books, internet access and other necessary materials
In
order to qualify for the Cordiner scholarship students must satisfy the following criteria:
- Applicants must be accepted onto a postgraduate course at a recognised university
- Applicants must be female
- Applicants must be studying a vocational degree
Scholarships
will generally be awarded to those students who have performed exceptionally at the undergraduate level and wish to go on
to post-graduate studies. As such, previous recipients of a Soko Scholarship are in an ideal situation to continue their studies
if they meet certain criteria. These include maintaining a certain grade point average for their undergraduate studies, plus
acceptance into a post-graduate degree at a university in Malawi.
The
Cordiner Scholarship was initiated by Adrian Cordiner, an individual with a great passion for Africa and a strong advocate
of further education as a constructive way to alleviate poverty and provide a better future for Africa in general, and Malawi
specifically. It is dedicated to his parents, Leonard and Sylvia Cordiner, and is supported by family and friends.
How to Apply
The
Cordiner scholarship is applied for through the Soko Fund. Applications can be made using the standard Soko Scholarship application
form and marked for the Cordiner Scholarship.
