This Scholarship marks the consistent excellence of the contribution of women from the extended Nicholson family to education in Ireland and the United Kingdom. Five generations of Nicholson women have devoted their careers to teaching children of all ages, whether in small primary schools in Dublin in the nineteenth century, through teaching history in  Secondary Schools in Northern Ireland, and in the Mount School (York);  teaching English in Hertfordshire, and currently in inner London.

We hope this Scholarship will enable, in a small way, comparable family traditions to continue, or be established in Malawi.
